I have chosen to design for Shakespeare’s Macbeth to be set in Feudal Japan during the years 1580 -1670. These dates transition between the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1603) and early Edo period (1603-1868). A short but important period, the Momoyama period is the final years of the Sengoku period (1467-1615), also known as the Warring States Period, which reflects the story of Macbeth and the conflicting lands of Scotland in the original setting. Instead of kings, lords, and soldiers there will be emperors, daimyos, and samurai.
